The local w;hefet, •market has not been active during the past day or two, as the prices offered by millers do not meet with •the.approval of growers .who,are determined in most cases to hold. Ml- the hope of a further rise. It is understopd that inquiries have already been ' sent from Auckland for San Francisco wheat, but so far no business is reported as having resulted. News from the south is to the effect that inquiries .■ have been made from Dunedin for wheat from Melbourne, and it is stated that already a shipment of 3000 sacks has -been-varranged for at 3s lOd f.o.b. ; hut this;-lacks' confirmation as does also the ' statement that arrangements have been made for shipments 0 of wheat from Hobart to Auckland. It is possible, of course, that these rumours. have been set afloat for the purpose of inducing, growers to sell at lower prices than,)they are asking at present. There is nothing doing in barle> for local consumption,.but several lines have been sold for export at 4s ; __ to 4S' 6d f.o.b. Thereis a very good, inquiry for shipment both north and south.at 4s 4df.0.b., but it. is difficult to get it at that price. .A few sales of-oats have been, made at 2s 2\dat, country stations for feed sorts, but very Jittle is offering... .Potatoes now readily command 45s at country stations, and as much as 50s has been given for immediate delivery, a fair amount being exported. Onions have risen: to ,£_, and at this price there is. a good all-round demand for shipment; • A fair amount of business was done in grain at the, Rangiora market yesterday, wheat changing hands at from 3s lld to 4s Id, the: latter price being for prime milling; oats 2s to 2s 2d; blue peas 4s, dun and partridge 3s.
