CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

_■ THIS DAY. The adjourned general meeting of the Sorth Canterbury Charitable Aid Board was held at 10.15 this morning at the Armagh Street offices of the Board ; present —Messrs R. Westenra (chairman), J. Dobson, P. Board, C.J. Harper, W. Dunlop, J. Hamilton, W. Acton- A dams, J. T. ' .Smith, G. Wallace and J. Rennie. ! Apologieß for absence were received from Messrs Boag, Manhire and Reed. ' A motion by Mr Board to rescind the resolution of June 26,' 1893, relating to half-yearly lists, and that printed or typewritten lists of the names of all recipients of relief, duly arranged in alphabetical order, and showing total cost in each case for the past twelve months should be issued lia If- yearly, and distributed among the contributory local authorities, was lost. Correspondence was received from the Kowaißoad Board, the Borough of Ashburton, and the Eyreton and Amberley l.'oad Boards, stating that these bodies ■ww. against the incorporation of the Sau-aritan Home as a separate institution. The Sumner Borough Council alone expressed a contrary opinion. ashburton home. The Ashburton Home Committee revolted that it had recently held a meeting at the Old Men's Home, and thoroughly inspected the premises, noting with satisfaction the various improvements which had been effected since the change of management, greatly to the comfort and convenience of the aged inmates. The committee had engaged the services of IVIr A. Reade as cook, and asked the Board to formally ratify the appointment. The report was adopted. FINANCE COMMITTEE'S BEPOBT. The report- of the Finance Committee was as follows : — In submitting tho estil nates of requirements . for . the ■ ensuing year, "the Finance Committee is enabled to ! report that i the i expenditure for the twelve months ending March 31 has been kept .within the sums voted last March in almost every department. It will be necessary to make due provision for additional requirements for maintenance of inmates to be admitted to the Queen's Jubilee Memorial Home as soon as the new building is ready for occupation, Under some heads the committee proposes a reduction of the amounts likely to be required, as compared with last year's /vote ; but. -.commends that a wider margin be allowed for possible contingencies. The balance of estimated funds in band on . March 31 will admit uf carrying out the project for improving the present accommodation at" the Armagh Street premises, subject to the City Council's building regulations.
