THE ALLERTON WOOL WORKS.
The completion -of the buildings of the Allerton Wool Works, Woolston, was celebrated on Friday evening by a social gathering, to wluah Mr Walter Hill, resident representative of Mr James Hill, Bradford, Yorkshire, invited his workmen, fifty in number, and their families, and a large number of friends, the party numbering quite 250. The works, when complete, Trill be the largest and most up-to-date in New Zealand. One of the floors, 153 ft fey 33ft in dimensions, was beaut-ifiiMy decorated by a local friend as -a ballroom for the .occasion, and a drawingroom and a smoking-room were famished byvM* A. J. White. A first-class .concert opened the proceedings, and in the iaterval between that aud "the I 'darted Mr Hjill,w.R3 presented by the employes .with a handsome- sihrer-nlourited walking-stick, as a mark of their -esteem. After a sumptuous supper dancing was kept up until 4! a.m., and all present thoroughly enjoyed ihemaelvea] Visitors from town were "driven down and back va drags provided 'by the host, who, with Mrs Hill, received and entertained the guests most handsomely. It was the most successful affair of the kind yet held at Woolston, and in the Bourse of the evening, though speeches were barred, occasion was taken to wish success to the Allerton Wool Works and their proprietors.
