There is an example of an English Prince i becoming a clergyman. Cardinal Yorke, , the eminent Eoman Catholic prelate, who died in 1809, was the son of the Old • Pretender, James Edward Stuart, and . hence the grandson of our James 11. He L was the last Prince, direct and legitimate, . of the Stuart family, but gave up his rjolil tical life and ambitions to work for* the P Catholic Church as a priest, and finally I became a cardinal. T The parcels which passed through the 1 English post last Christmas in point of numbers eclipsed all previous records. Their total is roughly estimated at 1,500,000. To overtake the Christmas postal traffic 5000 additional hands were em--1 ployed. There is no indication that the - Christmas card is losing favour. In one or [) two newspapers, however, advertisements appeared, wishing friends the "coinpli- & ments of the Season," winding up with "No cards."
