THE RUSSELL CASES.
THE SECOND CHARGE DISMISSED. At the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr R. Beetham, S.M., Charles James Russell was charged with having, on Dec. 6, 1897, performed an illegal operation on a single woman by means of an instrument. The Court was crowded. Mr T. W. Stringer prosecuted, and Mr Joynt appeared for the accused. The young woman upon whom the operation was said to have been performed was examin< I at some length, and denied that any ins.i ument had been used upon her. Mr Stringer said that in the face of the evidence now given, which was quite at variance to that given by the police, he felt that he could not proceed further with the case. The accused was thereupon discharged.
