DESTRUCTION OF A FLOUR MILL.
[From Our Correspondent. I CUST, March 21. Early this morning the splendid roller flour mill was destroyed. It was owned by Mrs Gardner and leased to Mr Ealpli Gardner. There is no clue as to the origin of the fire. The building and the valuable machinery were completely burnt. The insurance on the building and machinery was .£6OO in the Standard Office, but there is none on the stock. It is estimated that the value of the property was nearly £2000. Much sympathy is expressed for the losers. , ._ The fire was discovered by the Messrs Gartery, who live close by, but though an alarm was instantly given, the flames had so strong a hold that nothing could be done. Mr Gardner made a determined effort to save the books, but was unsuccessful At about eight o'clock on Sunday evening he visited the mill, but saw no sign offiro, nor was any light struck whilst I he was there. No clue can be given as to ! the cause of the fire.
