AN APPEAL TO THE GOVERNOR. LPbB FBKSB ABBOOIATION.I WELLINGTON, March 19. Mr Jellicoe has sent a telegram to Lord' Ranfurly, denying that he applied to the* Solicitor-General for a new trial. He says- ' that he only asked for permission for the' prisoner to appeal on a point of law' respecting the admissibility of certain evidence. He begs his Excellency not to sign 1 the warrant till counsel has submitted a statement to him, and states that this course was followed by Lord Onslowhr the Chemis case, and that commutation' followed. Philpoct's execution is fixed for 8 a.m. on Wednesday. ' WELLINGTON, March 21. The convict ; Philpott has lost all his v bravado since it was known that there wasno hope of commutation. -
