THE WEATHER.
A dry nor'-wester set in at Timaru at midday yesterday, and blew strongly and steadily all the afternoon. Our Ashburton correspondent writes that Thursday's storm brought a heavy fall of hail over the Greentreet district. The temperature on Thursday night was down to freezing point. Yesterday a furious west wind blew all day, with blinding dust clouds, and counteracted the effects of the showers that fell on Thursday. A very severe hailstorm was experienced at Kirwee on Thursday afternoon, just before the conclusion of the cycling meeting, accompanied by a heavy thunderstorm. During the storm a thunderbolt fell in the garden of Mr George Bedford, of Courtenay, and became embedded m the ground. A thunderstorm travelled from the Hororata Hills, over Coalgate to East Malvern, on Thursday evening. It was followed by rain, hail and frost.
