NAPIER NEWS.
TPeb Press Association.] NAPIER, Maech 18. The police have returned from Mohaka, and report that the body found on the beach is unrecognisable, but could not be that of Charles Wright, as it must have been in the water for several months. The country is so precipitous that the body had to be buried where it was found. The inquest on William Gray, who disappeared on Wednesday morning, and whose body was found on a projection in the cliff, 150 ft above the breakwater, resulted in a verdict that while suffering from insomnia he mistook his way and accidentally fell over the cliff. A joint committee of the Napier and Hastings Councils and Hawke's Bay County Council • to-day carried a resolution in favour of the erection of abattoirs, at a cost I of J25000, but there was a difference of opinion as to the site. That point has been deferred. — ] There were 1610 applicants for eight sections in the Tiratu Block near Dan- 1 nevirke, including bank managers, clerks, tradesmen and a very large Dumber of women. The reason of the rush is said to be the belief that the timber on the block, which is close to a mill, is worth twenty times the price put on the lease.
