MEETING OF MEMBERS.

At the annual meeting of members of the Rifle Association to-night there was agood attendance. In the election of members of the Council, the only change was that Sergeant Webster, of the A Battery, Auckland, was elected in place of Captain White. Wanganui was 'selected as the next site for the meeting to be held about the first week in March next. Major- Sommerville announced — and it was received with regret — that after the next meeting he intended to sever his connection with the Association owing to the pressure of private business. He said he had taken - charge of the Association in Wanganui in 1886, and would leave it after the meeting there next year. In referring to, the position of the Association, the Major said that a much more definite guarantee, should be given by the Government, in- - stead of leaving the members of the Council to become responsible for what was really a colonial affair.
