AMURI TURF CLUB.

Handicappers — RaciDg events, Mr J. Cresswell ; trotting events, Mr J. Honeybone ; starter, Mr A. Boyle. The Amuri Turf Club's annual race meeting was held yesterday at Culverden. The excursion train from Christchurch conveyed a fair number of visitors, and these, together with the local people, constituted a satisfactory attendance. Although once 01' twice during the afternoon the weather appeared threatening, the rain held off until the close of the racing. The majority of the events were interesting, but speculation was limited, and the sum of £,Q52, which was passed through the totalisator, was «£77 less than that handled at the corresponding meeting last year. Jacko, Agent-General and Ballyhonous in the order named. At the fourth fence the leader blundered and unseated his rider, and his example was followed by Ballyhonous at the next obstacle. Jacko and Agent-General rose to the last fence together, and a capital struggle resulted in favour of the former by half a length. Time— 3min 14-Jsec. Dividend— £2 Ids.
