CATHOLIC DEMONSTRATION.
At 9.30 this morning the children from Sfc Mary's and the Barbadoes Street Catholic Schools met in Barbados Street, and, headed by the Stanmore Band and marshalled by Messrs M'Cormack, MAdam and Fox, marched to the railway station, whence they were taken to "the Riccarton racecourse by train. By 2 p.m.-consider-ably over 1000 people had assembled on the ground, and appeared to be enjoying themselves immensely, the various amusements provided being well patronised. The wants of the children were well looked after, and the juvenile races were entered into with zest by the little ones. A programme of sports was held in the afternoon.
[Per Pkkss Association.] WELLINGTON, March 17. A heavy gale blew in the night, and was followed by rain ; but the morning was bright, and there is a perfect day for the holiday. It is slightly windy. The principal celebrations are the Hibernian Sports at the Basin Reserv.e, and picnics.
