RIVER BOARD.

• A meeting of the South tyainrnkariri River Board was held yesterday afternoon at the offices of Messrs Haruian and Stevens, Hereford Street ; present— Messrs R. W. England (chairman), C. F. Money, R. M. Taylor, J. Glanville, B. Smith, J. 0. Atkinson, G-. F. Carpenter and H. W. Peryman. A letter was read from the Clerk to the Selwyn County Council, explaining the position in reference to work recently carried out by Mr Davies in order to bring water into the headworks of the waterraces, and suggesting that some members of the River Board and Council should meet on the ground. After a full discussion it was resolved on the motion of Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Carpenter — " That a reply be sent to the Council informing it that the Board, having reconsidered the question, . adheres to its previous resolution, and requests that the obstruction be removed as quickly as possible, and to the satisfaction of the Board's overseer." The overseer's report was read and adopted. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Glanville, seconded by Mr Caipenter, that steps should be taken to have the gravel deposits near. White's Bridge surveyed into one-acre sections by the Board's overseer with a view to making them remunerative, and that offers should be invited from persons willing to lease them in one or more sections. Accounts amounting to .£93 15s 6d were passed for payment. Mr Peryman gave notice for next meeting of a special order to levy rates for next year, and the meeting terminated.
