ST JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.
The quarterly meeting of the committee of this Association took place yesterday, at the City Council Library. Present— His Worship the Mayor, Mesdames Hacon and Churchill Julius, Miss Pheney, Captain Garaia, Dr Irving, Messrs Connal, Gibbd, Jekyll and Manning. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdaines Gibbs and Louisson,. Bishop Julius and Dr ■ Thomas. The annual report and balancev} sheet for 1897 were adopted by the com- "'' mittee, and the annual meeting was fixed to be held in the City Council Chambers, on March 30, at 8 p.m. The Secretary reported as follows : — " Invalid transport — Three accident and seventeen invalid cases have been attended to with horse ambulance since last meeting, and .£8 16s lOd had been received in fees. The horse ambulance was sent by rail to Little River for Mr Turner, injured : ; by the recent coach accident, but he was unfit to be moved, and the ambulance was ;■■ returned. Nurse Kegister— Three nurses have been added to the list since last meeting. Dr C. D. Greenwood has received his appointment as honorary life member from St John's Gate, in recognition of his valu- ■;.\ able services as a gratuitous lecturer., . The syllabus of a new course of in-: atruction in home hygiene has been, Teceived from the Chief Secretary. Its: object is to diffuse by means of classes of v : instruction, examination, and the issue of . certificates, a practical knowledge of sanitary science and the laws of health, : which will enable those acquiring it to! keep their bodies and homes in a healthy condition, thereby tending to check the, occurrence and spread of disease. Text • books have been sent for, and classes will probably be held in the latter part of the year. The names of those wishing to attend such classes should be sent in as soon as possible in order that arrangements may be made." Accounts amounting to JBIO 18s 6d, were passed for payment.
