[Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, March 14 . Over fifty Austrians, en mute for the northern goldfields, arrived from Sydney by the Waihora. At Paeroa a man named Plannagan nearly poisoned himself by sating matohheada owing, it is said, to family troubles. Coombs, of Sydney, who is at present in Auckland, and who has been instrumental in arranging a series of races between Mr Pittar*s thirty-foot yacht Meteor, of Auckland, and the Bronzewing and other Sydney yachts, received the following cablegram regarding the proposed races from Mr S. T. "Wilson the honorary secretary of the Sydney Boyal Yacht Squadron, the senior yacht club of the colonies:— "Agree to sail the best of three races this month ; JESO a side ; under squadron rules. All arrangements left to Squadron Committee. Letter confirming to follow." The letter referred to 1b expected to arrive here by the Alameda from Sydney on Friday.next. The Meteor will most probably be shipped to Sydney by the Elingamite next Monday.
