ADVERTISING ON TELEGRAPH POLES.
AN OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION. The City Council has for some considerable time been in communication with the Post and Telegraph Department as to the disfigurement of telegraph, posts in the city by advertisements and posters. A reply has at last been received from the Department, which runs as follows :— "Sir, — I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of Feb. 26, asking that advertising posters affixed to telegraph posts in your city should be i removed, and, in reply, to inform you that this will be done as soon as sufficient rain has fallen to thoroughly wefc them." This letter will be brought before the City Council this evening, and one Councillor has expressed his intention of moving that the Mayor be asked to offer special prayers for rain. Sixty languages are spoken in the empire governed by the Czar of Russia.
