SIR ROBERT STOUT.
A movement has been started in Wellington to present Sir Robert Stout with some tangible token of the public appreciation of his services. The Neto Zealand Times supports the proposal. '^Through all Ins political career," it remarks, "Sir Robert has very deservedly held a high place in public esteem. It" is well, theretore, that he "should not be allowed to retire from active politics without some public recognition of his services ' We would suggest, however, that any such testimonial as is hinted at should be made in some enduring form ; that is to say, in the form of a gift which would lastingly testify to the public appreciation of a statesman for whom, we believe, respect is genuinely entertained by political foes as well as friends."
