A VOLUNTEER MUTINY.

EEFUSAL OF ORDEKS AT NELSON. FPer Press Association.! NELSON, March 10. At the volunteer inspection last night, Captain Simpson, of the Coastguards, being in 1 command in the absence of Colonel Pitt, the Coastguards, with the exception of two officers and two non-commissioned officers and two men, refused to obey the order to fall-in, as a protest against being made to resign their position as head of the column which they had occupied for many years as the Naval Artillery. There has been considerable unrest for some time owing to the change of name to the Coastguards and the deprivation of the position as head of the column. The men stolidly refused to obey orders, and matters were much disturbed, volunteers in uniform hooting. After the battalion parade the company was addressed by the officers, and, to make an example of the recalcitrants, they were ordered to hand in their rifles. About twenty did so, reducing the Coastguards to twenty-five. Colonial Pitt has been notified.
