CORRESPONDENCE.
THE ST ALEANS LOAN. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — On Monday next the St Albans ratepayers will have an opportunity of voting on the loan proposals submitted to them by the Council. lam aware that the ratepayers are being constantly pestered by opponents of the loan, and urged to vote against it, and figures are quoted which . are entirely at variance with facts. Let every ratepayer calmly think the matter over for himself.and then allow his intelligence to govern his decision. I think the scheme put forward deserves the favonrable consideration of every ratepayer who desires to see St Albans a thoroughly healthy locality. Let the residents look at the unsightly gutters which adorn two-thirds of the roads in the borough. Are they likely to prove beneficial to the health of the community? Every time they are cleaned out they are deepened and widened, and the filth removed is of necessity left on the banks to fester and offend the nose of every passer-by. The Council simply cannot carry out any comprehensive work on the present rate, and I trust the scheme will receive the unanimous support of all those in the affected area who desire to live in cleanliness and health. — I am, &c, A WELL-WISHER.
