COLLEGE RIFLES. The camp of the Christ's College Rifles at Mr Monck's paddock, near Stunner, wil break up this morninsf, after a week's gooc work under the instruction of Staff-Sergt. Major Barrett. A3 is usual at conipanj comps, the members of the corps went t( their ordinary occupations during the day. time and drilled in the mornings and evea ings, the work consisting chiefly of conipanj drill,attack practice and rifle drill, especially the new manual exercise. It was doni with very creditable diligence, and the good effect of the training was decidedlj noticeable. The discipline of the cainp and the conduct of the men were above reproach, and tho commissariat arrange ments svnd cooking were exceedingly good Yesterday morning the company attended divine service at All Saints' , Church, Sumnef, where the Rev C. 11. Gosset-con-ducted the service, and prenched froni the text " Thou, therefore, endure hardness, as a gocd soldier of Jesus Christ." The lessons were read by Major Day and Captain Charlewood. In the afternoon a number of ladies and other friends of the members visited the camp, .and were entertained at afternoon tea. A competition for the honour of having the best-kept tent took place among. the squads, and was gained by No. 4 squad, that of Sergeant Mathias, the corporal in charge of the tent being Corporal Carew. All tho tents were in exceedingly good order, and the camp generally was in a very creditable state of tidiness. In the evening a parade for drill purposes was held. The Imperial Rifles will go into camp on the Police Reserve, Sydeuh am, on Saturday next, and will train every morning and evening for a w,eek. ATHLETIC SPORTS. The Christ's College Rifles occupied Saturday afternoon with sports, under the rules of the Amateur Athletic and Swimming Associations, at their camp. Mr Monck's paddock afforded a very fair course, and the programme was gone through with commendable promptness and punctuality. The Sports Committee consisted of Lieutenant Smith and Merton, Colour-Sergeant Currie, Sergeants Colclough, Hartland, Gibson aud Mathias, and Corporals Wilson aad Evans. Messrs S. Monck, J. F. Grierson, T. D. Condell, Captain Charlewood, and Lieutenant Mertou acted as judges, Lieutenant Smith as referee. Mr E. R. Webb was a very capable starter, and Private Harley an energetic and efficient secretary. Thecompetitors in most of the events had to wear uniform, most of the "fields "were large, and everyone was. keenly contested, though in the most admirable., spirit. Alarge number of; - 'spectators, including many ladies, witnessed the ppp.rts, andAvere hospitably entertained with afternoon tea in the mess marquee. Some members ,oi' other corps were pces&ent, and tfi'ere was a race on the programme for their benefit. The weather was bright and clear, but the keen wind was not altogether pleasant.
