CYCLING.

Last evening at Lancaster Park a series of test races was held by the Pioneer Bicycle Club for the purpose of selecting a second rider — j. W Jones having already been chosen — to represent the Club at the Alliance Championship Meeting to be held in W^nganui next month. Owing to the heavy showers of rain which fell between six o'clock and eight there was only a small attendance, and the events were got off at considerable disadvantage. The following are the results : — One Mile — J. Grant, 1 ; H. Amos, 2 ; D. Bowman, 3. Time— 2min 3&|sec. Five Miles — H. Amos, 1 ; J. Grant, 2 ; D. Bowman, 3. Time— l4min 54fsec. Half-mile— J. Grant, 1 ; *H. Amos, 2 ; H. Thompson, 3. Time— lmin 29sec. Grant will, therefore, be chosen to represent the club with Jones at Wanganui. A meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Cycling Club was held last evening ; present — the Captain (Mr W. E. Thompson) in the chair, and Messrs C. H. Cotton, R. L. Adams, T. Clarkson, W. G. Williams and G. Harris. The Linwood Club wrote forwarding the amount of subscription due to the Christchurch Club by one of its members. Mr G. H. Lethaby wrote, claiming £Q 18s, his expenses in connection with an accident which had occurred to him whilst racing at the Club's race meeting, held on Dec. IS. He contended that the accident had been duo to the action of tho Club in allowing too many competitors to start in a race, thus breaking the League rules. It was decided to reply that the Club recognised no liability in the matter and could not see its way to establish the precedent of compensating a rider for an accident occurring in a race. The following programme for a race meeting, to be held on Good Friday, was drawn up : — Maiden Race (one mile) £6 ; Half-mile Dash, £7; Easter Wheel Race, .£SO: One-mile Open, £7; Five-mile Scratch, iJll ; Three-mile Multicycle, .£l2. The "Wheel Kate prize was divided as follows:—First MO, second .£7, third .£3. G. A. v&laxwell, late of Dunedin, was elected a member of the club. [Per Press Association.] TIMARU, Jan. 28.
