THE BUSH FIRES.

ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of tha Entertainment Committee in connection with the Bush Fires Belief Fund Avas held at the City Council Chambers at 4.30 p.m. yesterday. There was a good attendance, and Mr G. R. Hart presided. It was decided to ask the Mayoi and Captain Marciel to wait on the senioi commanding officer of H.M. ships now in port, to request the co-operation of the members of the ships' companies at the gathering on the occasion o£ the costume cricket match at Lancaster Park on Thursday next. it was decided to ask the Mayor tc request the citizens to close their shops at noon instead of 1 p.m. on Thursday, and tc request those employers who did noi observe the Thursday half-holiday tc allow as many of their employes as possible to leave work on that day. It was also agreed to write to the Holiday Committee of the Chamber of Commerce or the subject. It was reported that arrangements ir connection with the various entertainmonts were progressing very satisfactorily; that a large number of gentlemen had promisee to assist in the costume cricket match and that it was proposed to have a proces' sion of drags, containing the players ir costume, to Lancaster Park from th< Oxf 3rd Hotel, the licensee of which, Mi Dale, had offered -to provide rooms foi the players to dress in, and to take charge of their garments in their absence Another offer of assistance from the Professional Band was accepted, witl: thanks, and it was agreed to request tlu band to play outside the theatre ou the night of the kinematograph entertainment It was reported that Mr Smith, presidenl of the Christchurch Working Men's Club had lent a dozen fancy costumes, and thai a "Darktown Fire Brigade" would be organised to take part in the procession. Votes of thanks were passed to th< Lancaster Park Ground Committee, to the Council of the Art Society, to Mr Dalelandlord of the Oxford Hotel, to Mr A. J White for having offered to furnish tht vice-regal box at the Theatre, to Messr; Nairn "and Son for having offered flora decorations, and to Mr F. D. Kesteven foi having volunteered to take charge of th( arrangements at the gates during tlu costume cricket match. The Committee, adjourned to. 4.30 p.m on Monday next.
