■ « [Pes. Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Jan. 10. The records of the Police Court show that there were 338 more persons charged last year than during 1890. The principal increase is in drunkenness, the number last year being 652 against 456 in the previous year. 'Ihere was a large increase in the number of charges under by-laws. Only 30 persons were committed for trial against 47 in the previous year. There was an extraordinary increase in the number of lunatics committed, the number for last year being 36 males and 40 females against 14 males and 19 females in 1896.
