BOROUGH COUNCIL.

» RANGIORA. The monthly meeting* of the above Council was held last evening ; present — The Mayor (Mr C. I. Jennings), and Coun- *• cillors Foster, Canuichael, Good, Shank- ! land, Sansom, Luxton and Blaekett. Leave 1 of absence "was granted to Councillor Keir. Correspondence was read from the Hon the Premier, in reply to the Council's protest against the action of the Legislative Council in throwing out the ' Old Age Pensions Bill, expressing his regret ' and disappointment at the action of the Upper House, and signifying his intention to persevere with the Bill next session. From the Waimakariri-Ashley Watersupply Board, suggesting that a conference Bhould be held between the Council and the Board to decide upon the watersupply for the borough. The letter also stated that there would be no difficulty in providing Rangiora with an ample water supply, provided that the borough is willing to pay a reasonable cost. The Mayor stated that the contract forthe race to Rangiorahad been let, and the work would be finished in two months' time. The receipts for the month were reported to be .£l2B 6s 7d, and the bank overdraft ,£3B 3s 9d. Accounts amounting to .£97 ls lOd were passed for payment. It was decided to hold a special meeting on Friday, Jan. 21, to frame by-laws dealing with the licensing of hawkers and pedlars and hackney carriages. The Council then, rose.
