* [Per Press Association.l AUCKLAND, Dec. 30. At the New Zealand Chess Championship to-day, in the fifth round Pleasants drew with Mellor, L. P. Smith (Glenvar) won from Jowett, Lelievre drew with H. H. i Smith. (Glenvar), Edwards won from Grier- j son, Barnes won from F. Smith (Waimea), Meilor won from James, Mellor defeated Edwards in the adjourned game, Howe won from Wood.
