[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 30. The amount of work done by the Auckland Postal and Telegraph Department during : the past week was very heavy. During the four days preceding Christmas Day over 57,000 letters and cards, 31,000 packets, 34.000 newspapers and 450 parcels were despatched, and during the same period 72,000 letters and cards, 37.000 packets, 26,500 newspapers and 1400 parcels were delivered. During Christmas week over 20,000 telegrams for delivery and forwarding were handled — GOOO received, 6006 forwarded, and 8000 passed through the office. WELLINGTON, Dec. 30. A comparison of the returns of the Christmas postal and telegraphic traffic shows that Wellington had a substantial lead in the amount of both postal and telegraphic work put through.
