ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
♦ |"Peb Press Association.] NAPIER, Dec. 31. A married woman named Annie Springway was found dead in bed yesterday afternoon. At the inquest the medical evidence was to the effect that death was due to heart disease, and a verdict was returned accordingly. An accident happened at the well-sink-ing works by the clock tower at about two o'clock this afternoon. As the borer was being worked to get rid of a quantity of sand and gravel in the pipes, a few pieces stiick, and, with th 3 extra strain put upon it, the tackle attached to the borer carried away, bringing down a heavy block. This struck Mr H. Tucker, the borer in charge, on the side of the head, making an ugly cut, and then glancing off caught his arm near the joint, injuring it severely. He was taken to the hospital, where his hurts were attended to.
