BOROUGH COUNCIL.

...... . RANGIORA. . The monthly meeting of the. above Council was held last evening. There were present-^-The Major %Mx)C : .i jj^oniiigs),. Councillors -filackett, Foster, Carmicliaeil, Good, Shankland, Luxton, Sansom Bud " Keir. A letter was lead from Hr H. W. Bishop, S.M., intimating that ie 'mould liold an inquiry into the matter ;pf the proposed ford across the Ashley river on Tuesday, Nov. 16. The Mayor and Councillors Good and Carmichael were appointed I to represent the Council at the enquiry. A notification was received from the North Canterbury Hospital Board of the annual election of representatives, and a letter from Mr Moor expressing his willingness to again act as representative of the amalgamated boroughs. The Mayor was appointed to attend the election. The financial statement showed receipts to be .£2O Bs, and the bank debit balance .£96 12s. Accounts amounting to .£65 5s 9d were passed for payment. The audited balance-sheet for the half - year ended Sept. 30 was read. It showed receipts .£730 15s 2d, expenditure .£759 2s sd, debit balance ;£2B'7s 3d. " The Mayoral election was referred to, and Councillor Good moved— "That the Mayor be asked to reconsider his decision not to take office for a second term, and to allow himself to be nominated." This was seconded by Councillor Sansom and carried unanimously. Ultimately the Mayor consented, and was at oGce nprainated. Councillor Shankland brought under notice an effort being made to assist the Fire Brigade f ands by enrolling honorary members, and all the Councillors gave in their names. This concluded the business.
