RANGIOM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the above Council was held last evening ; present — the Mayor (Mr C. I. Jennings) and Councillors Blackett, Cone, Foster, Good, Shankland, Luxton, Sansom, Keir and Carmichael. Correspondence was read from the Charitable Aid Board and the Hospital Board, intimating that the Council's contributions to the institutions were, respectively, .£43 8s lOd and .£4l 17s. Fx'om the New Zealand Acetylene Gas Company, Nelson, bringing under notice the acetylene gas and offering to exhibit it. It was decided to reply that the Council would be glad to have an exhibition of the light if the manager intended to come to Christchurch, In view of the Hawke's Bay flood claiming attention, it was decided to hold over the circular from the Mayor of Christchurch soliciting assistance in raising subscriptions for the Jubilee Home for a month. ' The Works Committee recommended that payment be made for screening shingle, putting in Culvert in Victoria Street and painting Council Chamber. The report was adopted. The receipts of the month were reported to be .£33 11s lOd, and the bank debit balance .£l2l 19s sd. Accounts amounting to ,£lO5 2s 8d were passed for payment. The motion to strike the annual rate of tbree-farthmgs in the £, adopted at a meeting on April 12 was confirmed. The rates of four persons in poor circumstances were remitted. A committee, consisting of the Mayor and Councillors Shankland and Sansom, was appointed to ascertain the price of a section in the market suitable for a recreation ground. The committee appointed tp report on the water supply scheme was allowed an extension of time in which to report • and ' Councillor Good's motion respecting scale of charges for the fire engine going outside the town was held over for a month. The Council then adiourned.
