SWIMMING NOTES.

[Bt Natator in " Canterbury Times."] It is rumoured that Dacre, tho old Auckland polo crack, is to be transferred back to Auckland from Southland. Cameron, one of the Sydenham Club's leading polo players, met with an accident last week, which may prevent him taking part in the coming polo championship. The Richmond, Railway and East Christchurch clubs have held club races during the past week. All the clubs received large entries, and the races were very evenly contested. The various clubs have heartily taken up the Schools Championship, and the Richmond Club has decided to give a silver medal to the winner of the 50yds, to be decided at the club's annual sports on Feb. 6. The 25yds event will be swum at the Christchurch Sports, the 75yds at Sydenham, and tlie 100 yds at East Christchurch. . The Napier Swimming Club, assisted by the Port Ahuriri Club, was to hold a gala on Jan. 20, the programme consisting of nine events, including lOOyds Championship of Hawke's Bay, and a Water Polo match between the Napier and Port Ahuriri Clubs - ,< mv The Auckland Observer says: — "Ihe New Zealand Swimming Association has entirely ignored Auckland in their allotment of championship events, an omission which has not altogether pleased local swimmers." No application was received from Auckland for any championship event, and as at least two remain unallotted, I have no doubt the Association will bo deeply grateful if Auckland will only apply for them. It is not often that championships go a-begging. The Amateur Swimming Championship of|New South Wales decided on Saturday resulted:— Lane 1, Gormley 2, Hellings 3. Won by a length. Time— 2min 46sec.
