[Per Press Association. I LONDON, Jan. 21. Tenders were opened to-day for the Western Australian Land Company's one million one hundred thousand 3 per cents. A total of .£2,330,000.. was offered, at an average of about two shillings, premium. The Bank of England rate of discount has been reduced to 3£ per cent. At to-day's sales merino wools were neglected, but cross-breds sold well, English and German buyers secured the bulk of the wool sold.
NAPIER, Jan. 22. Nelson Bros, have received a cable message from London dated yesterday that the frozen meat market is : very depressed. Last week sales -were difficult to effect, even at reduced prices. The quantity of mutton afloat from Australia is very heavy. Quotations are : — Best Canterbury mutton 3_d per lb, Dunedin 3d, Napier and North Island 2£d. .
