VITAL STATISTICS.
[Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. The following are the vital statistics for December : —
The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 363, against 320 in November, an increase of 43. The deaths in December were 146, an increase of 30 on the number in November. Of the total deaths, males contributed 88 and females 58. Thirtyone of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 21*23 per cent of tbe whole number ; 24 of these were under one year of age. There were 26 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards. Four men 66, 67, 77 and 79 and two women 70 and 72 died at Auckland ; seven men 65 (two), 67, 72, 77, 85 and 86, and two women 69 and 77 at Wellington; three men 66, 68 and 75 at Cliristchurch ; and five men 66,7' 75, 76 and 86, and three women 76, 80 ana 83 at Dunedin. The following are the figures for some of the principal boroughs : —
