CHRISTCHURCH PAINTERS' UNION.
A meeting of the Christchurch Painters' Union was held in Otley's Hall on Monday, at which it was decided to forward the following letter to the architects of Christchurch:—" Sirs, — I am directed by the executive of my society tp draw your attention to the following: — It is generally acknowledged by architects that to do full justice to their plans it is necessary to have workmen well skilled in their respective callings ; more especially is this the case with regard to the finishing trades.. In justice to architects, and the public as well, it ought ito be insisted upon. The operative house painters and decorators of Christchurch having formed a union, to which bond fide tradesmen are admitted; we beg your assistance in carrying into effect the aforementioned principles by requesting contractors • to. employ union labour. — I am, &c, N. Young, honorary secretary."
