ELLESMERE.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Thursday, Oct. 1 ; present — Messrs G. C. Waby (chairman), A. Chamberlain, E. Lochhead, William Nixon and William M'Millan. Mr John Eenuie personally desired to loiow if the ratepayers would be favourable to a loan to build a new traffic bridge over the Selwyn. The Overseer referred in his report to Mr H. D. Gardiner's offer to sell a portion of rural section 5552 to increase the approach to the ford on the Selwyn but the Board decided to wait, in consideration of the uncertain movements of the channel of the river. It was decided to attend to the Branch Drain Eoad, near Mr George Frampton's. The Board decided to apply to the members for the Selwyn, Ashburton and Ellesmere electorates asking for a new traffic bridge over the Selwyn. The pay-sheet, amounting to ■£128 ss, was passed. James Houston's tender, at 4s lid, for formation of Washbourne's Eoad, was accepted, as were the following : — Deepening drain, Hamner's Eoad, W. Aiken, at 7s 4d per chain; shingling Cowan's Eoad, Edward Dobbin, at lOd per cubic yard ; shingling IrwellRakaia Eoad, W. Woods, lOd per yard.
