Wednesday, Oct. 7. (Before Mr W. I. Ballinger, J.P., Mr Stephen Lawrence, J.P., and Mr E. H. Ricketts, J.P.) Attempted Suicide. — Thomas Jervis Ryan was charged with attempting to commit suicide on Sept. 28 by cutting his arm with a knife. Sergeant-Major Mason said he had been instructed by Inspector Broham to state that the case was hardly one for the Supreme Court. He would lead no evidence, and would leave the case to the discretion of the Bench. The Bench caiitioned the accused, strongly advised him to give up drink, and discharged him. The wife of accused was present, and said that the family were not prepared to look after him.
