CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.
The monthly meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club took place last night. A transfer was granted from Mr E. Gates to Mr C. Wynn- Williams of the Artillery colt Telemeter ; jockeys' licenses to D. Hands, A. M'Donald and E. O'Brien ; apprentices' licenses to J. Bridges and T. Thompson ; gentlemen riders' certificates to Mr A ; G. M'Donalil and W. E. Youngman. The applications of W. Fox for a trainer's, and Thomas Anderson for a jockey's license, were held over for consideration. A further application from Emmei^son for a jockey's license was deferred. A number of owners' permits were granted,* but applications from Mr Gilchrist for a license to train ahorse called Revolver, and from Mr M'llwraith for another called St Clair, were withheld until the names of their horses were changed. The Ashburton Racing Club applied to hold their summer meeting on the Tinwald course, as their grand stands were considered unsafe, i Under these circumstances the applications ; were granted. A letter from W. Jackson ■ regarding hi 3 license was considered, '. but the former decision was not disi turbed. E. Moran applied to have his • disqualification removed, and a number of . petitions, largely signed by people on the I West Coast, were put in in support of the t jockey's requo3t, but the committee decided ; not to entertain the application. The I Course Committee reported alterations to ■ the new stand, and repairs to the hrJf- . crown stand, additions to the tea room, the 5 erection of a new starting machine on the i training track, increased accommodation j to the carriage paddock, and the removal i of the paddock totalisator. It was decided • to increase the siding, . as applied for by the Railway Department. I At a meeting of the committee of the . Canterbury Trotting Club, held last night, the -word " colony " in the conditions of i the Club's Produce Stakes was altered to " colonies," so as to admit of entries being received from Australia. 3 Our morning contemporary inadver- . tently stated that entries for the Can- ' terbury Trotting Club's Spring Meeting close to-night.
