SYDENHAM.
The voting of ratepayers in Sydenham throughout the day was light till about five o'clock, when more activity was shown. At Waltham Ward, the polling place for which was at St Saviour's School, one of the candidates had a table with the rate-roll, &c, toassist his friends. Only about a third of the number of votes on the roll were recorded, and a few minutes past seven o'clock the Returning-Officer (Mr C. Allison) declared the result, there being some . fifty to sixty people in front of the Council Chambers. The result of the election was as follows — Addington Ward. Russell Halley ... 77 George Piper 25 On the declaration being made Messrs Lafferty, Gledhill and Bell addressed a few words, thanking those who voted for them, and the crowd soon dispersed.
