THE RAILWAY COMMITTEE.

TO THE EDITOR. ; "... Sir,— l notioe..in your, ißSue .of Sep.t.;2 & ■"$ better 'sighed Sainuel yaileV-cojmplaining ' '■ tliatthe Chairman ■ oftliV^ail^ys-tio.m- : : Sriittee of the House of* Eepresejftatives: ■•- •• " had not had the. courtesy to send' any reply " to him regarding the decision of the • Committee on a petition forwarded by him to the House. Let me inform Mr Vail©' that sending replies forme no part of a chairman's dutieß, and on reflection he will probably agree with me that this is as ; it should be, seeing that during the last two sessions 1282 petitions have been dealt with by the House. Mr Vaile's petition was not to myself,, but to the House, and when the House receives a report on a petition the officials are commissioned to forward replies to the various petitioners. Mr Vaile further asserts that the report presented by the Committee on his petition was the report of a majority, and expresses a wish to obtain their names, in order to "do justice" to those members. Let me say -that the report was the unanimous* decision of the Committee. — I am, &c., W. W. TANNER, Chairman Railways Committee.
