ROAD BOARDS.

TEMPLETON. The ordinary monthly meeting of this Road ' Board was held at the office, Yald-. Hurst, on Monday- present— Messrs .Carpenter (chairman), W. Guy, J. Carr, W. Bailey and G. "Witty. Correspondence was read — From Mr R. H. Jackson, in reference to storm water, on Hornby Road* The Clerk was directed to cut a drain to the gully by Mr Jackson's house for the purpose of affording relief. Fi'oni Messrs Campion Bros, and J. Haydon> asking for a better outlet for storm water near their respective properties. The Clerk was instructed to forward copies o!f their letters to . the Halswell and Lincoln Road Boards respectively, as the roads affected were under their supervision. From the Christchurch Meat Company, asking permission to erect gates on the Riverbed Road between South and Shand's Roads, as they had purchased the sections on both sides of the firstmentioned road. The Clerk was instructed to reply that before permission could be granted notice of the application must be ' duly advertised in accordance with the Public Works Act, 1894. The monthly report was considered, and the following resolutions were passed — " That the report of the Committee be adopted in reference to storm water at Jersey Farm, and that the 12in culvert recommended be laid." " That the Board approves the result of the meeting with the deputation from Riccarton Road Board reference to drainage at Riccarton Church corner, viz., to construct an open crossing on the Yaldhurst Road, opposite the parsonage grounds, and to take up and re-lay culvert at the corner." "That the question of drainage into gravel pit above Templeton be deferred until the necessary culvert is laid under the railway." " That the application of Mr G. Taylor to construct a water-race on Pound Road be granted, subject to the Surveyor's approval." Tenders were accepted for various works, and the paysheet, amounting to .£152 2s 2d, '.vas passed. — — — SPREYDON; The monthly meeting was held on Thursday ; present — Messrs J. Hocking, D. Handisides and J. W. Rogers. An apology was received from Mr Brown. Mr Handisides was voted to the chair.' A deputation from milkmen waited on the Board to state their views regarding the milk conference, and urged that the views taken by the City Council were too stringent, the working too costly, and that the applications to the Government should be delayed. Mr Handsides replied, advocating the work of the conference. A deputation waited on the Board about the formation of the road from Strickland Street to Wilderness Road. Mr Freeman promised to get the persons concerned to guarantee funds if the Board would make the road. The Board promised to take the matter into consideration and let Mr Freeman ,hear from .them. The Clerk was directed to write to the Christchurch Drainage Board, . asking them to improve the drainage from Johnston Street to Selwyn Street. It was decided to hold a special meeting in a fortnight to consider the lowering of Selwyn Street. The roadman's report was approved, and he was instructed to carry out the work proposed. It whs decided to put a culvert at tho end of ;HelleweH's Road. A letter from the City Council, in regard to the tramway, was referred to the Selwyn County Council. The roadman was instructed to attend to drains in Cheviot Street. The pay-sheet, amounting to .£3O lUs sd, was passed.
