THE QUEENSLAND FOOTBALLERS,

[Per Press association.]

DUNEDIN, August 27.

The Queensland footballers arrived by the Wakatipu to-day. As the vessel missed the tide for Dunedin, and she had a good deal of cargo to put out and take in, her departure for Melbourne was postponed till to-morrow. As the Queenslanders were not aware that the Southland match was fixed for to-morrow, excursion trains arranged for and a half-holiday declared, the Secretary of the Otago Rugby Union, unable to find the manager of the visitors, telegraphed to the Southland Union of the state of affairs. Au urgent reply came back to send the fifteen Queenslandeis by the afternoon train, as the match must be played on Friday or not at all. As the Secretary of the local Union had no authority to incur expenditure, and as the visitors were scattered about the town, while their luggage was at Port Chalmers, he, after consulting as many of the visitors as he could find, wired back that it was impossible for the men to go on by the afternoon train. A reply has since been received that the match has now been fixed for Saturday.

The visiting footballers were taken to the theatre to-night by the local Union, and a drag has been placed at their disposal for to-morrow. Some surprise is felt at the want of business arrangement in connection with the tour, as had the Otago secretary not stepped in, Southland avoulcl probably have been deprived of the match.

WELLINGTON, August 27.

The football match between Wellington College and Wanganui Collegiate School was won by the former by twenty-three points to three.

OAMARU, August 27.

The Otago v. North Otago match was played to-day. The weather was wet. The match was won by Ofcago by 15 points to nil.
