COUNTRY NEWS.
Ashley Traffic Bridge. — As a result of the Minister of Lands' visit to Rangiora,---a conference of local bodies, convened by the Ashley Road Board, is to be held at the Rangiora Municipal Chambers on Friday, to discuss the Ashley traffic bridge question. Bazaar at Kaiapoi. — A meeting of tlio Ladies'. Committee in connection with the Kaiapoi Football Club's bazaar, was held on Monday evening. There was a good attendance, and a quantity of preliminary business was transacted. The bazaar will be held in October, and the ladies are working hard to. make it a success. . Hunting. — The South Canterbury Harriers met at Mr A. L. Barker's, Orai'i, on Monday. Mr Barker, as -deputy master, had charge of the pack, and there was a capital muster of Ideal and Timaru followers. Two good runs were obtained, one resulting in a kill. All the visitors were hospitably entertained by the acting-master at his homestead. Church Parade.— The Malvern Loyal Orange Lodge. held a "church parade on Sunday, when Bro the Rev T. H. Lyon preached an excellent sermon to a large congregation. The service was held in the Annat schoolroom, in connection with the Primitive Methodist service. The Hororata and Cpurtenay Lodges wore well represented. ' . Upper Ric'carton Cricket Club. — A social reunion of the Upper Riccarton Cricket Ciiib was held at the Racecourse Hotel on Monday evening. There was a good attendance, and Mr H. Frost occupied the chair. After Ample justice had been done to- the excellent; dinner prepared by Mrs Piper, the captain, Mr J. Hanson, read a report showing that the club had played fourteen matches during the past season, winning ten and losing three, whilo one had been drawn. Mr J. Hunt headed the list of batting averages, while Messrs J. Bush and E. O'Farreil divided the bowling honours. It is the intention of the club to hold a concert at an early, date to raise funds to have the ground (kindly placed at their disposal by the Rev W. T. P, Winter) top-dressed and put into thorough order, to enable the club* to enter a team or teams- for the Cup competitions next season.
