CHARITABLE AID.

SOUTH CANTERBURY BOARD. The monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held on Wednesday. The Chairman reported that the Government subsidy on contributions by the local bodies — between .£I6OO and .£l7oo— had been received, and would carry them on till the next contributions became due. • The question of fitting a hot water apparatus at the Old Men's Home was discussed, and the Board decided to obtain one connected withthenewHtchenrange. Thecaseof a man who met with an accident recently, and was reported to be almost dying in the hospital, was left in the hands of the Chairman to deal with. There are some young children, for whom the Board has to provide in the meantime. The Board decided to tender the upset rental, ,£1 each/ for three municipal sections adjoining the Old Men's Home, for an extension of the garden ground. Hospital accounts (,£188) and charitable aid accounts (.£189) were passed for payment. The Board went into committee to consider an application from the three members of the honorary medical staff for an increase of honorarium from .£25 to .£SO each, and after a discussion.it was agreed tQ grant the application. The House Steward drew attention to the insanitary condition of the baths, &c. The menibers inspected the building, and resolved to consider the question before making up next year's estimates.
