CHRIST'S COLLEGE RIFLES.

The thirteenth annual meeting of the Christ's College Rifles was held in their orderly-room last night. There Avas a good attendance. Captain Day presided, and Lieutenants Smith and Webb Avere present. The annual report of the committee stated that the debt on the new uniforms had been paid off, and that after capitation had been received the corps would start the year with in hand. The strength had, from a variety of causes, been low, and only forty-two out of fortynine had earned capitation. Of the seven non-efficients five had applied for leave of absence for a considerable time. Since the close of the year ten new members had been elected. The corps had had to be contented with second place in the district shooting. This was due to numerous causes, principally on account of there being a larger proportion of recruits than usual. With the issue of the Martini-Henry rifles and more consistent practice, better results were looked for during the coming year. A balance-sheet, audited by Mr J. F. Grierson, was attached. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The report of the Firing Committee, which stated that the corps had fired six matches during the year, two of which had been won, was also adopted. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year :— Honorary secretary, Colour-Sergeant Curry; assistant honorary treasurer. Private Moore ; Finance Committee, the officers exofficio, Sergeant Hartland and Corporal Merton j Firing Committee, Captain Day (em officio), Sergeant Colclough, Lance-Corporal Gundry, Privates Teape and Nalder. Captain Day appointed Corporal Inglis as custodian of the arms. On the proposition of Lieutenant Webb, seconded by Sergeant Hartland, a motion was passed by acclamation congratulating Sergeant Wakelin on having won the rifle championship of the colony at the New Zealand Rifle Association's meeting. Votes of thanks were passed to the auditor and the outgoing committee. Three new members were elected, and five others proposed.
