Owing to a dispute between the Education Board and a School Committee relative to the appointment of female pupil-teachers a deadlock has occurred. Last night the committee passed the following resolution : — " As the Board has ignored its own regulations, and also the Act, the committee therefore closes the girls' school till the Board complies with its own regulations." The school was closed accordingly this morning. WELLINGTON, March 20. At the half-yearly meeting of the Trades Council, the report showed that the Council had done good work, and the balancesheet showed that the finances were in a» sound condition. Mr H. C. Jones was reelected president and Mr E. E. Vaney secretary. Native game, with certain exceptions, may be killed within the South Canterbury district from April 1 to July 31; within the County of Ashburton from April 1 to July 31, and within the Geraldine County district from April 1 to June 30. The Eimutaka took a shipment of gold, value .£107,020, which is the most valuable shipment ever taken from the colony in one vessel. Mr Chamberlain's despatch to the Governors of colonies on the question of trade with the United Kingdom is published in to-day's Gazette. Mr Samuel Durham has been gazetted an inspector of stock, and an inspector under the Dairy Industry Act. In his address to his constituents to-night, the Premier will unfold the policy measures which the Government intends to introduce next session, and the platform to be put before the people at the next general election.
