SENIOR CUP MATCHES.

By way of a change, on Saturday cricketers were favoured with Bplendid weather and excellent wickets, and the various competitions were continued tinder advantageous circumstances. Nothing very startling, transpired, the effects of a continued run of soft and dead wickets being all too apparant. The Midlanders, finished off their game with Lancaster Park in the senior competition with a good deal in hand, and then went on against the United. At the clobb of the day's play last year's winnerß of the trophy had the best of the contest/and poor batting Nin the game ' Sydenham against Lancaster Park has left it highly probable that the Lancastrians will Secure a good lead on the first innings. Midland v. Lancaster Pabk. Wanting 123 to win in their final innings. Wheatley and Lawrence started the batting for the Midlanders. Both men started confidently and well, and despite good, fielding and repeated changes in the bowling, the tens were signalled Very regularly. At 66 Wheatley left, caught off a bumpy one. Lawrence continued for a while longer, and his work, supplemented by the endeavours of Pearce, De Maus and T. W. Reese, enabled the older olub to claim a win by five wickets.' ScoreB :— . Midland v. United. Soon after the conclusion of the above game the Midland and United team? started play upon a new wicket. United won the toss and batted first, Fearoe and D. Keesa having charge of the bowling. Except for the fact that Collins played really excellent cricket, the wickets may be said to have fallen rapidly. He alone made any palpable resistance to the excellent trundling of young Beese, aided as it was by Pearce'a steadiness at the other end. Seven wickets were down for 91 and nine for 115; then Frankish, the last man, came in and hit out vigorously, so much ao that 133 was signalled without further disaster. Scores:— United.
