' Sir Henry Norman, the late Governor oi Qutensland, was a passenger by the Buapehu, which sailed thia afternoon for London, via Monte Video and Teneriffe. Tbe steam tug Duco, which left on a search for the disabled barque Weathersfield, has returned to port without sighting the vessel. A change of wind may, however, at any time bring her up to the Heads. The decision of tbe Court of Inquiry into the collision between the Wakatipu and Flora was -that Captain Ewen, of the former, should pay costs, £29 10s. The Magistrate said that if Captain Ewen had not been dismissed by the Union Company His certificate wonld have been suspended for some time, but under the circumstances there was no need to deal harshly with an officer who held a good record for ten years. Mr Gillon has taken medical advice in Sydney, and ascertained that the kidney disease from which he has been suffering is curable, but an immediate operation ia necessary. He will go into a private hospital at once, and expects to be there three weeks. Mr H. D. Bell, one of the city members, addressed his constituents to-night. The Mayor presided. The . speaker reviewed the work of the session, his remarks generally being condemnatory of the Government policy, except as to the Liquor Bill, whioh he regarded as an advance over previous legislation. No vote was proposed. , „ ± The funds in aid of the Irish Party benefited to the amount of £75 through Mr Davitt'a lectures. This amount will be ramitted'to him.
