INTERPEOVINCIAL CLUB MATCH. Pbtonb (Wemington) y. Lwwood (Chbistohtjboh). , The meeting between the champion ■senior teams of Wellington and Christ--church eveniuated yesterday at Lancaster Park. The ground was in a very bad fltate and, to add to the general discomfort, a cold eonth- westerly wind blew down the field all tie time. The game was an intensely earnest one and very evenly contested, ending up with no score baring been made by either Bide. The forwards monopolised the greater part of the play, and even when the baoks got possession vary little benefit accrued owing to the stioky state of the turf. About 800 spectators were present, and Mr Cotterill was referee, with Messrs Beauohamp and Smith acting as Una nmpirea. Petone kicked off against the wind. Price returned to the centre, and F, O'Brien went further on. Baumber relievedthe pressure, but the Greens were sot to be denied, and a strong attack was instituted, both Stringer and J. O'Brien in tarn almost scoring. Afterwards a lot of even and uneventful scrummages in the Blues' twenty-five were noted, and a free kick to Linwood gave Ward a long shot, which forced the visitors. Orchard fumbled the kick-out and play kept in the centre for a long time. The Linwood forwards, however, held their own well, and some smart back play, - in which Price and J. O'Brien were conspicuous, took the ball to the Petone line, but Baumber intercepted a pass very neatly, «and passed to De Joux, who ran right to Linwood's line, after dodging all opposition. Just in time he was overtaken by J. O'Brien, and the danger •verted. Eerr, Irvine, Fanning and M'Namara headed a fine charge back again, and O'Brien potted, but fell short. . Hardoastle, Mackenzie, Lipscombe and Haggar immediately made a fine Petone -charge right down the field, and Linwood . were forced. Price and F. O'Brien, and "Wynyard, Roberts and Baumber, were in turn noticeable for good play, bat the spell went on with the ball at the centre until jußt on the interval, when Pejtone were forced. Linwood attacked instantly the Becond Bpell wbb started, but Prusgle, Mackenzie and Lipacombe very soon got on a fine forward charge well papt the centre, and a lot of loose scrambling in the mud ensued. Plumber almost got over the looaUme, and a free look to Petone, taken by Roberts, forced the home team. Irvine, Price, Eerr and Darton took the game to the visitors' ground, and a free kick close up was taken by Hobbs without result. After the kiok■Out Orchard got out of trouble very neatly and centred play* Petone came with an irresistible dribbling rush which swept up the field and forced the Greens. The Wellington team held their opponents -in their own ground for m good while, till J. O'Brien made a nice run well past the centre, only to see Hardcastle dribble in fine style back again, and J. O'Brien running back was penned on his line, and a forcedown was again noted against Linwood. After this the local forwards pulled themselves together and took play rapidly to Petone's Hag, but a misß-klck by Hobbs .went out on his own side of the flag. A mark by Baumber gained further ground, but just on time Linwood came with a splendid xusb, noticeable for fast following up and ! sure tackling, and the whistle Bounded with .the play on Petone's line, and the game a drawn one.
