CANTERBURY TYPOGRAPHICAL ASSOCIATION.

The half-yearly general meeting of the Canterbury Typographical Association was held on Saturday evening at the Foresters' Hall, Oxford Terrace. Mr W. A. Williams (president) occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. The report submitted by the Board of Management congratulated members npon the general prosperity of the Union, and made special reference to the large expenditure incurred during the pact half-year by way of unemployed paymentß and grants to members, a state of matters whioh the Board anticipated would be accentuated in the future unless measures were adopted to meet it. Members were, therefore, urged to make as widely known aa possible the fact that the trade wan much overburdened with Burplna labour, and was being seriously threatened by the steady encroachments of laboursaving machinery. Members were also informed that the Association had been registered under the. Conciliation and Arbitration Act. The balance • sheet Bhowed the funds of the Association to be in a sound condition. After a brief discussion the report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. Mr W. C'ullen waa elected to represent the Association on the Trades and Labour Council in place of Mr W. M'Namara (resigned). A vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close.
