NEW BRIGHTON NOTES
♦ [FEOM OUB OWN COBBEBPONDENT.J So as to ba in keeping with the times New Brighton has been rather dull of late, except for high seas and our share of the snow and the earthquake. Now, it is very much awake in getting ready for the coming season. Already the tram cars on Saturday afternoons and Sundays are well patronised, and the pedestrian traffic has begun to be apparent. One evening last week we had a delightful concert, under the management of Mr and Mrs C. Edgar. Unfortunately, heavy rain set in at the hour of opening, but I understand that the programme is to be repeated on an early date. Next Thursday evening the local Football Club is to wind up its successful season with the usual '' social.* 1 Sight matches were played, and only one was lost. The residents are wondering what the Eoad Board is thinking about in leaving the sea-wall unattended to. Very soon all the formation of the esplanade will be washed away. Mr Sef ton ia retiring from business here, and Mr Wyatt has secured the property with the view of extending his business. The Fishing Club does not seem to have quite decided on the site for the new shed, bat I hear that the matter will be finally Bettled during this week. The committee has had numerous offers of assistance, financial and otherwise.
