Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
A: meeting of the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ; was held this afternoon at the City Council Chambers ; present— The Mayor of Cbristchurch (chairman), Messrs I). Duncan, M. Murphy (hon secretary), arid B. Foster (assistant secretary 'and: inspector). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames KinBey, Julias,. Anderson and Enabling. The' inspector reported that daring the month he had administered eight cautions in oasea .at cruelty., ,A. woman had bean fined J63 and coats for working a horse with sores, and the animal had been destroyed by order of the magistrate. A t Aldington he had stopped the practice of ear-marking fa,t pigs with a knife. Mr Murphy mentioned that over fifty entries had been received for the exhibition of children's pets at the Christchurch Poultry Society'sforihcoming show.; The. meeting then terminated.
